Boston Globe: “Rent control gets renewed push in hesitant Mass. Legislature”

Yesterday, Massachusetts state lawmakers heard hours of testimony for and against several proposals to lift the state’s ban on rent control. Boston Mayor Michelle Wu did not attend the hearing, but she nonetheless submitted written testimony supporting the city’s pro-rent-control Home Rule Petition. If approved by the legislature and signed into law, the petition would give the City of Boston power to cap rent increases at 6% plus inflation or at 10%, whichever is lower in a given year. Related, an effort to place a rent control measure on the 2024 ballot failed to garner enough signatures to be considered. – Boston Globe
