Honolulu Star-Advertiser: “Gov. Josh Green Revamps Housing Proclamation”

Hawaii Governor Josh Green issued a new emergency proclamation to address the housing crisis in Hawaii. This is the third iteration of an earlier proclamation issued in July, which was meant to accelerate the approval of new housing units. This new version addresses many of the concerns raised by opponents, in part by reinstating public hearings and protections for Native Hawaiian burials. Some activists, however, remain troubled by the governor’s use of emergency power to eliminate the housing shortage. They want development to proceed more slowly, despite the severity of the housing crisis, and are calling for more community engagement in all new housing approvals. – Honolulu Star-Advertiser
