Pew Trusts: “Minneapolis Land Use Reforms Offer a Blueprint for Housing Affordability”

Rents and home prices have risen dramatically across the country in recent years – but not in Minneapolis. From 2017 to 2022, the city’s average rents have grown by a mere 1%. This is because local leaders in Minneapolis have focused on growing the city’s housing supply, rather than enacting rent control or other ineffective housing policies. The city eliminated parking requirements for residential development, encouraged residential construction in what were once solely commercial corridors, and legalized small multifamily buildings in what had been single-family zoning districts. – Pew Trusts
