Pioneer Press: “Rent control, tenants’ rights included on priority list for new St. Paul City Council”

St. Paul’s seven-member City Council has four newly elected members. For these newcomers, housing policy appears to be top of mind. One new member, Mitra Jalali, said that she wants to study the city’s rent control policy in order to determine whether it has really helped tenants in the city. (Of course, it has not.) Another new member, Nelsie Yang, hinted that she may want to make the policy more restrictive, saying “We’ve gotten a lot of public testimony that landlords are coming and self-certifying rent increases more than 3%.” – Pioneer Press
