Last week, the City Council in Alexandria, Virginia, passed its “Zoning for Housing” plan, an initiative to reduce parking requirements, increase building heights in certain areas, and allow townhomes and other multifamily buildings in areas previously zone just for single-family homes. The council approved these reforms despite vocal opposition from local Nimbys and did so unanimously, with all its members voting to create more opportunities to build new housing in the city. – The Washington Post
