Madison, Wisconsin, is loosening regulations on accessory dwelling units (ADUs), known also as “granny flats” or carriage houses. The idea, according to Madison’s zoning administrator, Katie Bannon, is to “fill in the missing middle’ in Madison’s housing market” by making it easier to build ADUs. The new changes, which were also supported by the AARP, were adopted unanimously this week by Madison’s Common Council. — Wisconsin Public Radio
